The Cost of Genuine Ruby Diamond Earrings

There are some very nice ruby diamond earrings available are fashioned into studs and hoop. Hoops will usually be designed with diamonds alternating between the beautiful red gems. Studs are made with diamond accents place on each side or even surrounding a central ruby. Ruby jewelry can be quite expensive. Some people find it overwhelming to shop for ruby jewelry, especially if they do not have independent knowledge about gemstones. There is much to learn about quality and how it affects the grading systems that are used to determine the price of the item. Sometimes it can be very difficult to determine a fair price to pay for genuine ruby rings and earrings. There are a few guidelines that can help get you pointed in the right direction.

The first thing you will need to know is if the rubies have been treated or enhanced in any way. You also need to examine them for clarity and color.

Plain earrings with enhanced or treated rubies but no diamonds included are priced somewhere between $120 and $300. Diamond size and quality will determine how much more you will spend. If the price is less than $200 the stones will likely either be of poor quality or treated and any diamonds included will be tiny.

A pair of natural ruby earrings with diamonds rated at medium quality will be priced between $500 and $600. You can expect to pay $1,000 or even more for gems that have the best quality of color and clarity. Figure about $1,000 for each carat for a high quality ruby. A pair of earrings with half carat gems in each piece will be priced at $1,000. The gold, diamonds and quality of craftsmanship will add to that cost.

For a good example, visit JewelBasket and search for the Omega backed ruby earrings. The settings are 14k yellow gold with diamonds inset in a flower design. The price is more than $1400. Similar earrings found at Blue Nile cost around $1,300. You just will not be able to purchase quality stones and diamonds with gold settings for only a couple hundred dollars. It just cannot be done.

  1. I really liked this post. You describe this topic very well. Natural gemstones are found in nature. Laboratory-created stones, as the name implies, are made in a laboratory. Laboratory- created stones do not have the rarity or value of natural colored gemstones. Laboratory-created and imitation stones should be clearly identified as such. The basic unit for weighing gemstones is the carat, which is equal to one-fifth (1/5th) of a gram. Carats are divided into 100 units, called points. For example, a half-carat gemstone would weigh .50 carats or 50 points. Gemstone treatments or enhancements refer to the way some gems are treated to improve their appearance or durability, or even change their color. Many gemstones are treated in some way. The effects of some treatments may lessen or change over time and some treated stones may require special care. Treatments and/or enhancements should always be disclosed by the seller.
